Festilandia, situated in a prominent position between Levante Beach and AvenidaMediterraneo, has begun to dismantle the infrastructure of its park as a result of being closed since March, when the nationwide State of Emergency began.
“In March, like everyone else, we had to close and afterwards it was very difficult to reopen, practically impossible, because many security and sanitary control measures had to be implemented and we did not want to put anyone at risk,” explains HonorioPerea , owner of the facility.
Thousands of children from Benidorm, other regions of Spain and the rest of Europe have passed through Festilandia since the park opened twenty eight years ago, when Perea took it over from its predecessor, Europa Park.
Even when larger theme parks out of town, such as Terra Mitica opened, the park maintained its popularity with children of all ages, until the pandemic hit Benidorm hard.
However, this is not the end of the road for Festilandia, as the owners plan to use the winter period to refurbish and add new attractions and features, with a view to reopening to the public in spring 2021.
“We would very much like to be able to be operational again for next Easter , although that will depend on how everything evolves,” said Perea, “There is a company interested in taking over the project, who have experience in this sector, so the objective would be to be able to reopen as soon as possible, generate between 28 and 30 jobs and, above all, add our two cents to improve the leisure and family offer of Benidorm,” added the confident owner.
