UK government advice on the new TIE card in Spain

HMA Hugh Elliott and Secretaria de Estado de Migraciones

The new TIE card for British residents is now available to secure your right to remain when Britain leaves the European Union. A TIE is a Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero or known as a foreigner's identity card. This is a new system introduced specifically for British residents wishing to reside in Spain after the Brexit transition period of 31 December 2020, it is an identity card that acts as proof of your permission to reside in Spain and replaces the current residency green card or A4 green document. The new TIE contains your NIE, personal details, fingerprint and date the card (and your residency) expires. It is law in Spain to carry with your identification and the TIE card will also be used for this purpose as well as proof of your legal right to live in Spain when the UK officially leaves the EU.
